Running with the Bulls!!!
When you're interviewing manufacturer's representatives to represent your product line in their specific territory, you look for honesty, integrity, ability and the desire to give that extra effort when needed to accomplish a task.
July 8th, Jim Colvin of Beta Technical Sales, our sales representative in Minneapolis, MN, proved he was up to the challenge when he escaped the wrath of the raging bulls in Pamplona, Spain.
The Spanish say Running with the Bulls began in the 14th century when ranchers would try to speed their cattle to the market in city center. After many years, I suppose boredom set in so young adults started to run in front of the bulls to reach the market before the bulls.
In modern days, the gates to the arena are only opened while the bulls are arriving and closed right after they get in. In this day's running several thousand people started running, but only a couple hundred made it onto the arena floor.
Jim had this to say about his experience, "Running with the Bulls was one of the items on my bucket list. After the event, when discussing with my compardres we decided it was simultaneously one of the most exhilarating and stupid things that we've voluntarily done."
When asked if he'd do it again, he remarked, "I'm not so sure."
Jim said, "One of the coolest things once on the arena floor was watching a large man chase one of the younger bulls (~800 lbs) which then stopped on a dime, turned and faced him. At this point the man reached out and literally grabbed the bull by the horns."
After thoroughly washing his shoes, Jim has resumed his work for Cactus and other suppliers in the Minnesota area. Be sure to ask Jim of this and his other adventures if you run across him in the market....
